Baltic Alliance Announces Permanent Closure of Singapore Petrochemical Unit

Baltic Alliance, a leading global player in the commodities and petrochemical sector, today announced its decision to permanently close its petrochemical unit in Singapore as part of a strategic realignment of its operations.

The Singapore facility has played a key role in Baltic Alliance’s regional production and supply chain. However, evolving market dynamics, including shifts in demand, regulatory changes, and a global focus on operational efficiency and sustainability, have led the Company to make this difficult but necessary decision. The chemical plant has an ethylene production capacity of 700,000 tonnes per year

Eduard Ginzburg, General director of Baltic Alliance, commented:

"The decision to close our Singapore unit was not taken lightly. While this facility has been integral to our operations, we are focusing on optimizing our global footprint, enhancing efficiency, and investing in strategic assets that drive long-term value for our stakeholders. We remain committed to our customers and partners and will ensure a smooth transition to meet all contractual obligations.

The petrochemicals industry has been grappling with razor-thin margins and losses for months, due to the global overcapacity mostly coming from the huge overbuild in China.

Baltic Alliance is implementing a comprehensive plan to manage the closure responsibly, including support for affected employees, reallocation of key production assets, and coordination with local authorities to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements. The Company is also reinforcing its commitment to sustainability by streamlining operations and investing in facilities that meet its environmental and social responsibility standards. The closure is in line with a global reshuffling of capacity as excess petrochemicals capacities have threatened profitability in recent years.
